Traumatic pericardial rupture with skeletonized phrenic nerve
BACKGROUND Traumatic pericardial rupture is a rare presentation. Pericardial rupture itself is asymptomatic unless complicated by either hemorrhage or herniation of the heart through the defect. Following diagnosis surgical repair of the pericardium is indicated because cardiac herniation may result in vascular collapse and sudden death. OBJECTIVES Here we present a case of traumatic, non-her...
متن کاملRight phrenic nerve palsy: a rare presentation of thoracic aortic aneurysm.
Phrenic nerve palsy causing hemidiaphragm paralysis is a very uncommon feature of thoracic aortic aneurysm. In one case, a 45-year-old man complained of chronic chest pain, dysphagia, and hoarseness of voice; posteroanterior view chest radiograph revealed lobular enlargement of the superior mediastinum and elevated right hemidiaphragm. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the thorax re...
متن کاملA comparison of pneumotorax and phrenic nerve pulsy complications using the methods: supraclavicular nerve block, routine and ten degree cephalic route
Background: Supraclavicular nerve block is a method for upper limb surgery in Anesthesiology. In this method that is common for supraclavicular block, injection anesthesia on the first rib and it has complications such as pneumothorax, phrenic never pulsy, infection, intra spinal injection. In this study injection with a 10 degree cephalic side as compared with the first rib in order to decreas...
متن کاملPhrenic nerve injury following blunt trauma.
Phrenic nerve trauma in the absence of direct injury is unusual and may present diagnostic difficulty. Diaphragmatic paralysis resulting from phrenic nerve injury may closely mimic diaphragmatic rupture. This case highlights the value of magnetic resonance imaging in establishing diaphragmatic integrity and of ultrasonographic assessment during respiratory excursion in confirming diaphragmatic ...
متن کاملProtecting the right phrenic nerve during catheter ablation: Techniques and anatomical considerations
Introduction Phrenic nerve injury is a recognized complication of catheter ablation procedures for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. The posterolateral right atrium (RA) is a common site of origin for atrial tachycardias (AT), but ablation in this region can be hazardous because of the proximity of the right phrenic nerve (RPN). Proximity to the nerve may be identified by capture during pacin...
